Our second comprehensive eye camps refined the processes developed in the Central Nallamala forest camp. In the villages of Nandigudem, Chilakacherla, Mallikarjunapuram, and Y-Cherlopalli, we examined nearly 600 patients. As before, we chose for our location a schoolhouse that was modified to be an eye clinic with the help of eager schoolchildren (See video).
A half hour later, we were a fully functional eye clinic. After registration outside, we set up the one-room schoolhouse with stations for checking vision, glasses power, and slit-lamp microscope exams for cataracts and retinal disease.
In the interior village of Cheruvugudem where only a few dozen families live, there was no school building for us to use. We created a mobile clinic in an unfinished building still under construction and had to improvise with battery-operated equipment as there was no power supply.
It was rewarding to see happy patients who had undergone successful surgery after our last trip come back to check in with us.
